Onshore GRE Installation Services

NOV Fiber glass systems is the leading worldwide manufacturer of fiberglass reinforced thermosetting resin pipe products used primarily for onshore and offshore corrosion control, in an extensive range of low to high pressure applications.
Sunrise is the licensed distributor in Australia of NOV FGS products.
NOV Fiber Glass Systems (FGS) piping systems cover a broad range of service demands, from transferring water to handling concentrated chemical solutions. Products are designed accordingly and positioned so projects are not forced to use higher performance, higher cost materials than what are needed to do the job. Where conditions include elevated temperatures or pressure, FGS Pipe, made with Thermosetting resins, rise to meet the challenge, where thermoplastics (such as HDPE, PVC and others) fall away.
FGS products are designed for extended-life service. Unequalled global positioning and
capacity assure the right product is delivered on time with supports services available as needed.
Sunrise will ensure that all GRE personnels are Authorized, Trained and Ceritifed as per NOV FGS Standard and meet ISO 14692-4:2017 requirements. This is to ensure that GRE Joints are bonded/welded appropriately. Typical joints of GRE Piping as follows:
Sunrise personnel typically perform the adhesive-bonded joint consists of a tapered bell end and a tapered or cylindrical spigot end, bonded with an adhesive/hardener mixture, the tapered bell and tapered spigot joint has two matching tapered surfaces and does not make up to a shoulder. Taper/taper joint is a stronger joint compared to Lamination Joint in terms of pressure class.
Site adhesive bonding joint shall be minimized so that to facilitate an efficient installation. In the situation that adhesive bondingjoint is inevitable, the adhesive bonding joint shall be carried out by well-trained and qualified bonder in accordance with NOV Fiber Glass Systems adhesive bonding joint procedure.
Special Tools for Adhesive Bonding Joint
Pipe shavers – to machined pipe end to required dimensions:
Power Drive – is the power unit to drive M74, M86, M87, M87XL & M88 shavers;

Pipe Arbor – is required to fix shaver (M74, M86, M87, M87XL & M88) onto pipe;

Heating Blanket – to heat cured adhesive bonding joint.

Lamination (Butt & Wrap) Jointing:

The laminate joint is used to join plain-ended pipe sections. After preparation of the pipe surfaces, a specific thickness of resin impregnated glass reinforcement is wrapped over a certain length around the pipes to be joined; the thickness and the length of the laminate are related to diameter and pressure.

Site Flanged Jointing

Flanged joints facilitate connections of piping network with Steel to GRE or GRE to GRE and allow for easy assembly and disassembly of piping systems.
Typical arrangement of GRE stub end to CS flange connection using ‘O’ ring, GRE flange to CS flange connection using gasket & spacer ring, GRE stub-end to GRE stub-end connection using ‘O’ ring are demonstrated below.

Mechanical O-Ring Lock Joint

The mechanical O-ring lock joint is a tensile resistant type of joint. This restrained type of joint can be used in unrestrained environments, e.g. aboveground.
The following tools and materials are required to make such a joint:
The assembly procedure starts with cleaning and lubricating surfaces, then mounting clamps, aligning, pulling the spigot in the socket and mounting the locking key(s). The joint can be disassembled, but is not designed as such. For specific and detailed information, reference is made to manufacturers’ documentation.

Trenching / UG Installations

GRE Pipes are used for various applications in various soil conditions. Sunrise can provide accurate trench structuring, product assembly and installation. The trench construction highly depends on the soil parameters such as type, density and moisture content. The trench shall be excavated and graded sufficiently deep and wide to allow for 300mm bedding below, 150mm padding on both sides and 300mm padding on top of the pipe after compaction for the continuous length of the pipeline. At locations where it is necessary to do jointing the trench (e.g. tie-ins) a bell hole shall be excavated to provide a minimum of 500 mm working space on both sides and below the pipe.

Anchor / thrust Blocks

Sunrise shall ensure trench shall be sufficiently deep and wide to accommodate anchor/thrust blocks if any. The anchor/thrust blocks needs to be cast against stable/undisturbed soil otherwise the backfill between the block and native soil shall be compacted to 100% SPD. Anchor / Thrust blocks shall be installed at the specified locations as per the stress analysis before doing the hydrotest. Refer to project drawings for the details of these supports / anchors etc.
